I have been blogging for over six years now which sounds crazy because it doesn’t seem like its been that long. I started over at Joyful Money Saving in 2008, a blog that I no longer have, and then I started Joyful Reviews & Giveaways in late 2009.
I started both blogs on Blogger because that seemed like the easiest & cheapest then. Blogger was quite easy to get the hang of and user-friendly.
Although I have been thinking about moving to WordPress for about six months now. There were a few main reasons for this.
On Blogger they can shut down your blog when ever they feel like it, with no warning. This is because you don’t own it, they do. They also don’t like blogs who have reviews or sponsored posts. They can mark the whole blog “spam” because of this. Since mine is mostly review based, even with disclosures, I didn’t feel safe. This was a VERY scary thought for me so once I started reading about it happening more and more I wanted to move asap.
WordPress is much cleaner and professional looking in my opinion. I’m not saying that blogger blogs can’t look really nice, I’ve seen some that I love the layout on. Although WordPress seems so much easier to get looking that way.
There are so many more customizing options with WordPress. This goes a little into my #2 reason. There is so much you can do, which can almost get overwhelming at times. There are thousands of themes and plugins (I wrote on my favorites) to choose from. Some feature you have seen on someone else’s blog that you love was probably a WordPress plugin.
I am going to writing a few more posts on the move as I am personally learning more. The next time I will write about the Blogger vs. WordPress costs and the costs of switching over.
Have you been thinking about moving over to WordPress? Or have you already and what are your favorite things about it?
